A wire transfer moves your funds on regulated U.S. banking rails, confirmed before any payout. Here is exactly how it works — explained clearly in English and Amharic.
What is a bank wire transfer? / የባንክ ዋየር ማስተላለፍ ምንድን ነው?
In plain English
A bank wire transfer is a secure, bank-to-bank payment. You send your money as a wire to MellaPay's regulated U.S. settlement account. Once our banking partner confirms the funds have cleared, MellaPay delivers Ethiopian birr to your recipient through our licensed payout network. As a registered Money Services Business (MSB), every wire is screened for compliance before payout.
Register and confirm your identity. As a licensed money transmitter we must know who you are before moving funds — this also keeps your account secure.
Agents and money transmitters record every deposit on the DepositSlips compliance platform before funds can be wired. Follow the steps below to activate your access, set up your agent profiles, and create your deposit slips.
Once the bank has your money-transmitter documentation on file and activates your profile, DepositSlips emails you a secure link to set your password. Your email and password unlock the platform.
Create staff accounts (for example a compliance officer) and set up each store agent with their agent ID, license and required documents. Every new user receives their own email to set a private password.
Choose the bank, account and deposit type (cash, ACH, check or armored car), pick the contributing agent, then select the collected transactions that make up the deposit total.
Accept the Deposit and OFAC compliance statements to certify the funds were reviewed and are lawful, then create the deposit slip. Print or view it with its authorization code and full sender history.
Every deposit must satisfy these procedures before a domestic wire is sent. Please follow them exactly. እያንዳንዱ ተቀማጭ የአገር ውስጥ ዋየር ከመላኩ በፊት እነዚህን ሂደቶች ማሟላት አለበት።
Deposit holds
All deposited funds are held in the business account until a deposit slip is generated on the compliance site that covers the deposited amount. No funds are released before the slip exists.
We track where every dollar comes from and where it goes. Any deposit over $3,000 must include ID verification, and any deposit exceeding $10,000 requires a Currency Transaction Report (CTR) to be attached.
Once all requirements are fulfilled, Seaport FCU sends a domestic wire on behalf of the licensed money transmitters, per the instructions, to their correspondent bank for international forwarding.
